Steve’s stories on Medium, May–June

It has been another busy couple of months for me on Medium. I’m continuing to learn a lot, engaging with other writers, exploring links with publications and pushing my creative writing in different directions. Here’s a little glimpse of what I’ve been up to.

Music

Music has been a big part of my life for the last six years. It has been a wild and bumpy ride – and not just for me.

The cheerfully unrepentant confessions of a neighbourhood nuisance. So sorry, neighbours! (Not sorry!)

A Wayward Voice

A rueful reflection on my vocal limitations, in the wake of my latest open mic performance. Will Ramblin’ Ralf ever play with me again??

Nature and Landscapes

Aside from when we’re making music, my wife Susan and I are happiest when we’re out in nature.

Solstice

In this piece I reflect on the turning seasons in Victoria, my adopted home – so different to the damp green island I grew up on. I never will get used to the hot north wind of summer here!

Tower Hill

This is a photo essay on a remarkable volcanic haven in southwestern Victoria – a treasure on our doorstep that it has taken me 19 years to discover. Better late than never! This is a coastal landscape that also looms large in my fiction writing.

Fiction

Following a reorganisation of the landing page for coriobay.blog, some of my fiction is now available on this site as well as on Medium.

I had great fun writing a ghostly tale of the Victorian coast, Writer’s Retreat.

I’ll be writing a separate post or two about my fiction writing shortly.
